Yawanawa Music Study Immersion at the Sacred Village

Instituto Nixiwaka is happy to invite you to a very special Yawanawa Music Study Immersion, taking place at the Sacred Village (Aldeia Sagrada), in the heart of the Yawanawa Indigenous Territory in the Brazilian Amazon.
For the Yawanawa, music is much more than artistic expression. Songs carry memory, spirituality, teachings and the living connection between generations. They accompany ceremonies, celebrations and moments of healing, and many have been preserved and transmitted through the voices of the elders and spiritual leaders.
During this immersion, participants will have the rare opportunity to learn Yawanawa songs directly from their traditional knowledge holders, understanding not only how to sing them, but also their meaning, their stories and the contexts in which they belong.
The retreat will be guided by Putanny, Nixiwaka, Peu, Nawashahu, Ykashahu, Kuru and their families, bringing together different generations of Yawanawa knowledge, music and spirituality.
Throughout the experience, participants will live within the Sacred Village and share daily life with the Yawanawa community, surrounded by the forest and the Gregório River. Music study will be woven together with ceremonies, traditional practices, storytelling, dance, moments in nature and community life.
This edition will also have a special focus on Yawanawa dance, with Putanny sharing more deeply the movements, teachings and spiritual dimension connected to her dance, alongside internationally renowned guest dance teachers.
More than learning a repertoire of songs, this immersion is an invitation to understand the world from which these songs emerge — the forest, the spirituality, the people and the ancestral knowledge that gives them life.
